The International Antarctic Centre is one of Christchurch’s leading attractions!
Located across from Christchurch International Airport the International Antarctic Centre is a leisurely 5 minute walk and brings Antarctica to New Zealand, with a fun, exciting and interactive experience.
Have fun in real snow & ice! The Snow & Ice Experience gives visitors the opportunity to explore an ice cave or get ‘exhilarated’ in the Antarctic storm. Blowing every 30 minutes the storm is complete with stunning lighting and authentic audio. Temperatures will drop to -24 degrees and the wind will increase to 40 kilometres! You are guaranteed to enjoy this amazing must see Christchurch attraction!
Hire an i-guide! These hand-held audio guides offer a comprehensive commentary as you make your way around the attraction, available in eight different languages.
See Little Blue penguins in the New Zealand Penguin Encounter, New Zealand’s first combined indoor/outdoor penguin viewing area. The penguins held here are birds that have been rescued and cared for. Due to physical disabilities, many of them have been left defenseless, and would not have survived on their own back in the wild. This is one of Christchurch’s big five attractions!
Take a ride on a genuine all-terrain Antarctic vehicle - the Hagglund! Buckle up and experience travelling across terrain in this unique and exciting machine. This vehicle has visitors rocking and riding up hills, over crevasses and even swimming in water! Nowhere else in Christchurch will you and your family experience such a unique activity!
