In summer flight times can be as early as 4.30am, while in winter flights can leave as late as 7.30am. As the sun rises, our flight takes us over a chequer-board of farmland laced with rivers, with the Southern Alps dominating the horizon to the west and the endless blue of the ocean to the east.
